LY ART'S: METAL EMBOSSING ARTWORK

Another of my passions is the Metal Embossing Artwork.

Embossing is a Metal Art whereby metal is worked to create raised surfaces or lettering (three dimensional reliefs) on sheet metal such as tin, aluminum, copper, or silver. The Metal Art displayed is made on aluminum. I had two professors one from Mexico and the other from Costa Rica .

The metal images are worked in a series of steps. It is done by working with tools of different sizes and shapes from the underside of the piece on a soft surface that will allow the gradual deformation of the surface. The different tools used are made of wood, Teflon, and/or metal and are such as but not limited to stylus embossing, stamping, and/or texturing tools.

The areas first worked are the ones that get the higher or lower profile sides. Once the relief is completed the backside is filled with resin that hardens keeping the shape of the relief. When dried, the piece is then mounted onto a wood frame, glass or other material that gives the desired character.

The final step is the application of the patina or metal colors to art piece giving it shades, volume, and/or a great definition.

Metal Art is called Embossing in English, Repousse in French, and Repujado in Spain.
